Accounting Career Speed Dating for UNWE Undergraduates and PhD Students
The Accountancy and Analysis Department jointly with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales /ICAEW/ held a Seminar on the ICAEW University Student Scheme and Accounting Career Speed Dating for UNWE Undergraduates and PhD students. Employers-partners of the event were some of the largest audit companies - AFA Bulgaria, EY, Grant Thornton and PwC.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Snezhana Basheva - Head of the Accountancy and Analysis Department. She recalled that a lot of work had been done during the six-year partnership and significant results had been achieved: Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes were accredited by the ICAEW; up to 8 exams of the prestigious ICAEW ACA qualification were recognized, dozens of joint events were held, etc.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mihail Musov - Institutional Coordinator of the partnership between the UNWE and ICAEW and Secretary General for UNWE International Cooperation also welcomed the audience. He read a Greeting Letter from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova - Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies. "I wish success to all the students who are ready for a new beginning and courage to those who still hesitate. Believe in yourselves! Believe in your success! We believe in you! ”- is said in the Letter. The guests were also greeted by Prof. Daniela Feschiyan - Deputy Head of the Accountancy and Analysis Department as well as by Mrs. Joanna Szychowska - Business Development Manager for Central and Eastern Europe at the ICAEW. The Seminar was held with the assistance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silvia Trifonova - Deputy Dean for Quality and International Cooperation of the Finance and Accountancy Faculty, Chief Assistant. Dr. Radka Andasarova and Hon. Assist. Dr. Zlatin Sarastov - lecturers at the same Faculty.
During the first part of the event the attending undergraduates and PhD students had been given free access to the ICAEW web platform - University Student Scheme /USS/. The registration in the platform provides access to: training in MS Excel, course in the field of "cloud accounting", webinars, various resources for improving the so-called soft skills, numerous job vacancies from international organizations, etc.
The second part of the event was held as career speed dating. The undergraduates and PhD students met with representatives of the partner organizations and assessed the opportunities for a job offered by them. The Seminar allowed the candidates to meet with the four companies at a time having only five minutes with each one to make the most of it. Both employers and students did not hide their contentment with the innovative form of the event and the results achieved so they promised to meet again during the following academic year.
