Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov is the New Rector of UNWE

Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov is the new Rector of UNWE elected by the UNWE General Assembly for a mandate of four years - from 2019 to 2023.

“I would like to thank to all those General Assembly members who took part in the electoral process. Some of them have supported me, some of them have supported the other decent candidate in the run-off or the other candidates in the list. I think that the UNWE has shown that it is of a high standard and we keep the collegial atmosphere and academic spirit. There comes the most serious work to be done. I hope that the emotions will pass after the election of the Academic Council and other bodies. Let all be safe and sound and continue working as a university number one”, said the new Rector.

Prof. Stattev wished Prof. Dimitrov to manage the university as successfully as he has been managing the Department and the Faculty.

Before voting the four candidates nominated for rector`s position – Prof. Dr. Valentin Goev, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Assoc. Prof. D.Sc. Jivko Draganov and Prof. D.Sc. Simeon Jelev /in the picture below/ presented their concepts and answered the questions by the General Assembly delegates.

I hope to keep and improve the leading position of our university with joint efforts as well as to manage with the modern challenges to UNWE and higher education in general. The policy of income, scientific research activity development and relations with the business are only part of the fields where a reasonable change is necessary to be carried out, pointed out Prof. Dimitrov during the presentation of his concept. He acquainted the General Assembly delegates with his work and professional career at the university. “In the beginning of October I sent a letter to all Departments to inform them about my intentions and major directions of reasonable change. I think it`s an expression of deep respect to the university collegium. I know it`s not easy being a rector and I realize the great responsibility”, added Prof. Dimitrov.

In the first round of elections 107 delegates voted for Prof. Goev, 115 -  for Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, 47 – for Assoc. Prof. Draganov and 22 – for Prof. Jelev.

In the second round Prof. Dimitrov was elected with 160 votes of the General Assembly members. His opponent Prof. Goev had 125 votes.

Before the elections the General Assembly accepted the report for 2019 by the hitherto Rector Prof. D.Sc./Econ./ Statty Stattev and his report for the mandate 2015-2019 as well as the reports for the work of the Control Council for 2019 and for the mandate 2015-2019 presented by its hitherto Chairperson Prof. Dr. Violeta Tsakova.

In his speech Prof. Stattev pointed out: “The Rector`s leadeship was led by the principles of continuity, stability and an open dialogue in a dynamic social economic environment as well as in the conditions of reduced state subsidy and demographic crisis. Despite the challenges we made all possible efforts those factors to not affect the quality of academic and scientific research activity, financial stability, optimal functioning and management of UNWE”.

Prof. Stattev outlined the high assessments of the university by the institutional and programme accreditations, achievements in the academic and scientific research work, electronization, relations with the business, etc. He expressed his thankfulness to the Vice-Rectors and Academic Council members, Student Council, syndicates, all members of academic community.

“UNWE is my cause and my destiny for 44 years. I would like to assure that it will always be like that. I wish the new academic leadership a will, courage and success. I wish all the members of our big, authoritative, influential and united academic family lots of health, prosperity and fruitful work”, declared Prof. Stattev.

”I would like to express my personal thankfulness to Prof. Stattev for the great joint work over the last 10 months. Due to the constant communication the Student Council and the Rector`s leadership worked together in sync leading constructive conversations about the implementation of successful policies for the UNWE development”, declared the Chairman of the Student Council Angel Stoykov. He outlined that “over the years Rector`s leadership due to its hard and permanent work had succeeded to build up an image of UNWE as a leading university not only in the country but also at European level”.
