First International Scientific Practical Conference SOVA’19

The UNWE hosted the first of its kind International Scientific Practical Conference SOVA’19 on the Sustainable Successful Business in Slovakia and Bulgaria. The Forum was organized by the UNWE, University in Economics in Bratislava (UEBA) and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Bulgaria. The event was held in the frameworks of celebrations devoted to the 100th Anniversary of UNWE and the 80th Anniversary of UEBA.

In the opening of the Conference took part the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev, H. E. Mr. Manuel Korcek, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, Prof. Ing. Ferdinand Dano, PhD., Rector of UEBA, Honorary Professor of UNWE, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boris Mattoš, Vice-Rector of UEBA, Mrs. Ivana Marksfeldova, consul of the Slovak Republic, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gabriela Dubcova, Head of the project by the UEBA. Moderator of the event was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mihail Musov, Secretary General for International Cooperation of UNWE and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee.

Prof. Stattev expressed his thankfulness for the honour of being the host of the Conference in the frameworks of the celebrations on the 100th Anniversary of UNWE. He examined the longstanding history, perspectives for the development of partnership between both universities as well as the good cooperation with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic.

For his exceptional contribution to the development of academic cooperation between the UNWE and UEBA the Rector Prof. Stattev awarded to Prof. Dano the statuette of Prof. Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE (in the picture below). The next step to strengthen the friendship relations between both universities is to open a joint Master`s degree programme providing a double diploma in the field of international economic relations.

H. E. Mr. Manuel Korcek greeted the UNWE for the forthcoming jubilee and expressed his thankfulness for the hospitality and excellent organization of the event. He outlined one of the Conference objectives - to show that a sustainable business model could be successfully started and developed by both countries.  

Prof. Dano pointed out the importance to support the sustainable development in the organizations for providing better future of economic universities. He expressed his hope that the successful development of the partnership relations would continue in the future through the opening of joint Master`s degree programmes as well as through intensive exchange of students and lecturers.

In the Forum took part more than 220 undergraduates, PhD students and lecturers. Among the official guests were the former Ambassadors of Bulgaria in Slovakia Mrs. Margarita Ganeva and Mr. Ognyan Garkov, H. E. Mr. Anzej Frangeš, Ambassador of Slovenia, H. E. Mrs. Tamara Liluashvili, Ambassador of Georgia, H. E. Mr. Thabo Thage, Ambassador of the South African Republic, Mr. Hubertus Klink from the German Embassy and Mrs. Eljbieta Svitalska from the Poland Embassy.

The conference discussions were organized in two parallel sessions. The issues of large enterprises sustainable development were discussed in the Large Conference Hall. Lectures were delivered by Mr. Martin Balusik, ESET Deputy Chief Financial Officer of ESET, Mrs. Yana Mihalkova, ESET Chief Accountant, Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Valentin Kisimov, Director of the Center for Computer Innovative Systems and Prof. Dr. Nikolay Shterev, Head of the Industrial Business Department.

The aspects of sustainable development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were discussed by the participants in the Small Conference Hall. Lectures were delivered by Mr. Karol Styblo, Executive Director and owner of LYRA CHOCOLATE and Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Kiril Todorov, Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship, Professor Еmeritus of UNWE.
