Public Lecture by Michael Peppers on the Profession of Internal Auditing – Global Impacts and Opportunities for Higher Education

The Profession of Internal Auditing – Global Impacts and Opportunities for Higher Education was the topic of the public lecture delivered at the UNWE by Michel Peppers (CIA, QIAL, CRMA, CPA), Global Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Audit Executive for the University of Texas System.

Prof. Ognyan Simeonov presented the guest-lecturer whose 25 years career has included serving as chief audit executive at major healthcare and higher education institutions, membership in the IIA Internal Audit Standards Board, etc. He outlined his huge contribution to the internal auditing development and announced the decision for conferring the tittle of Honorary Professor of UNWE in Internal Auditing on Mr. Michael Peppers.

The Rector Prof. Statty Stattev greeted Mr. Michael Peppers for his contribution to the development of internal auditing profession combined with active academic activity as lecturer at universities all over the world. He awarded him a Plaque for the title of Honorary Professor of UNWE in Internal Auditing, Commemorative medal of Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE and Certificate of appreciation in recognition of his lecture (in the pictures below).

In his presentation Mr. Michael Peppers presented the Global Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) as well as the major aspects of internal auditing profession emphasizing on its great importance for improvement of organizational activity through providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight. The lecturer reviewed in details what the internal auditor needs to observe in its work: to know the organization’s mission, strategy, objectives, and risks for assessing the process of risk management and insight.

The guest-lecturer paid attention to the qualities required for being an internal auditor – skills of assessment and courage to do the right things for avoiding risks, striving to continue developing competencies, etc. 

Mr. Peppers presented the Internal Auditing Education Partnership Program of the Global Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) implemented in partnership with universities all over the world and pointed out some interesting examples from his longstanding practice as internal auditor.
