Media Laboratory

The Media and Public Communications Department jointly with the Association of European Journalists (AEJ) - Bulgaria, magazine Economist and Money.bg organized the first Media Laboratory at the UNWE which was held in the Large Conference Hall. In it took part experts, lecturers and students.

This year we celebrate 10 years from the foundation of the Media and Public Communications Department and 22 years from the foundation of media speciality at the university. It is the reason to continue organizing such events which are useful to the Department, university, students and our guests. We hope that the cooperation with media organizations will go on being so successful and the Medial Laboratory will become a traditional event, declared Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stela Angova, Head of the Media and Public Communications Department.

Kamelia Ivanova, member of the AEJ Management Board presented the daily issues faced the Association and determined the media environment as “problematic and challenging” (in the picture below).

Assist. Dr. Ilia Valkov, member of AEJ and lecturer at the Media and Public Communications Department (in the picture below) pointed out that the accidents and violence had been predominating in the daily news reports. The journalists take a great responsibility covering the tragic events. More of them are inexperienced and often use unnecessary words, ask inappropriate questions, impose their opinion and they are arrogant, which is inadmissible. In such situations the journalists should always put themselves in the place of suffering people, emphasized Assist. Valkov.  

The students took part in the discussion pointing out cases of non-observance of the Ethical Code in reporting tragic events and they participated in a role game (in the pictures below).

The journalist Stefan Antonov from the magazine Economist spoke about the responsible journalism and online challenges and the Chief Editor of Money.bg Georgy Minev, Doctoral student at the Media and Public Communications Department examined the specifics of journalistic work on the internet.
