Cooperation between the UNWE and the National Customs Agency for a Quarter of a Century

Tuesday, 20 February 2018 13:10

Through an official ceremony it was marked a quarter of a century from the beginning of the cooperation between the UNWE and the National Customs Agency. During it diplomas of postgraduate qualification in International Economic Relations and Customs Policy were awarded to 20 officials of the Agency.

The cooperation between both institutions dates back from 1992 when the Postgraduate Studies Institute organized the first course for customs officials. The first Agreement of Cooperation between the UNWE and the National Customs Agency was signed in 1993 and in 2014 we concluded a Framework Agreement of Cooperation. I think that it is a good model for combining the expert potential of the academic staff of UNWE and the Customs Agency, said the Rector Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev.

Over the last 25 years more than 1000 customs officials have graduated various courses and qualifications at the UNWE. At the Customs Agency work 397 officials who have completed a qualification at the Postgraduate Institute, speciality International Economic Relations and Customs Policy, outlined Georgy Kostov, Director of the Customs Agency.

Prof. Statty Stattev awarded to Georgy Kostov the Commemorative Medal of Prof. Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE for his contribution to the development of the longstanding useful cooperation and joint activity between the UNWE and the Customs Agency (in the picture below).

I am impressed of the longstanding and useful cooperation between the largest state administration as the Customs Agency and the eldest economic university in Southeastern Europe. Now 1/6 or 528 officials at the Agency are Masters of Science of UNWE and 1/4 or 54 of the university alumni occupy management positions. Data for the annual attestation of officials prove that 89% of UNWE graduates have excellent grades for their work, pointed out Georgy Kostov.
