Training Programme for American Students at the UNWE

The 4th edition of the Training Programme for American students at the UNWE began its work. It is implemented in the frameworks of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the UNWE and Florida International University (FUI), Miami, USA signed by the Rectors of both universities in May 2012. The cooperation objective is to promote the international academic and scientific exchange between both universities including also the exchange of lecturers and students. The project is administered by the Public Administration Department and Coordinator for the Training Programme is Prof. Dr. Polya Katsamunska. The topic of the 4th consecutive one week Training Programme is: Bulgaria in the EU: The Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU (January – June 2017).

At the opening of the event in the Small Conference Hall attended Prof. Dr. Polya Katsamunska, Vice Dean for Quality and International Cooperation of the Management and Administration Faculty, Prof. Allan Rosenbaum, Head of the American group of students, Director of the Institute of Public Management and Community Services at Florida International University in Miami, USA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Valkov, Head of the Public Administration Department as well as the lecturers for the Programme: Assoc. Prof. Denitsa Gorchilova, Scientific Secretary of the Public Administration Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elena Simeonova, Scientific Secretary of the Political Science Department, Chief Assist. Dr. Ilonka Goranova from the Private Legal Studies Department and Chief Assist. Dr. Kalin Boyanov from the Public Administration Department.

Welcome to the best and the largest business university in South Eastern Europe where the future government elite of the country is prepared, greeted the American students Prof. Polya Katsamunska. She presented the schedule of the Training Programme which includes also meetings with representatives of government administration, visits to public institutions and historical sites.

Prof. Rosenbaum expressed his thankfulness for the hospitability of UNWE and invented the Bulgarian students at the American university. He appealed for more intensive bilateral students exchange in the frameworks of the Programme.

In her presentation Assoc. Prof. Gorchilova examined the structure, education and material facilities of UNWE and showed a virtual tour around Sofia (in the picture below)



The 1st edition of the Training Programme based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between the UNWE and FIU was held in 2013. It was focused on the issues of democratic transition and administrative reform in Bulgaria. The 2nd edition was implemented in October 2015 and it was devoted to the Multilevel Governance Issues and the European Union: The Case of Bulgaria. In 2016 the Programme was held for the 3rd time and it was devoted to the Contemporary Issues in Public Administration: Bulgaria in the European Union.
