97 Years UNWE

It is a significant day because we lay the corner stone of the future, outlined the Rector Prof.  D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev at the first sod of the new academic building of UNWE financed by the Operative Programme Regions in Growth and the state budget. Official guests at the ceremony which was the beginning of celebrations on the occasion of the 97th Anniversary of UNWE were Nikolay Nankov, Minister of the Regional Development and Public Works, Denitsa Nikolova, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Prof. Lyuben Totev, Chaiman of the Rectors Council in the Republic of Bulgaria and Rector of St. Ivan Rilski University of Mining and Geology, Dimitar Dilchev, Mayor of the Student District, Nikolay Galchev, Manager of the contractor-company, Kristian Madzhurov, Chairman of the Student Council.

In times when schools and universities are closed I am happy to lay a stone for the construction of a building where will be educated and brought up the future generations who will build up a pure and holy Bulgaria, declared His Eminence Polycarp who implemented the solemn water blessing ceremony on the occasion of the first sod. We hope we will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of UNWE in the new building, pointed out Prof. Stattev. In the new five floors building whose useful floor area will be 8518 square km there will have 4 ceremonial halls - 250 seats each, 4 halls - 120 seats, 4 halls - 80 seats and 4 halls - 40 seats as well as two test centers - 280 seats each, 19 lecturers rooms and a canteen for students – 100 seats, outlined the Rector. It will increase the academic facilities with 20% and will give us an opportunity to organize the academic process more efficiently - our permanently developing university deserves it, emphasized Prof. Stattev.

The Rector expressed a special thankfulness to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works for the support given to our university for the construction of the new building on the Operative Programme Regions in Growth. We were granted the biggest financial outlay of all universities because we had the courage to construct a new building, said the Rector. A great contribution to it has also the Ministry of Finance which included the new building in the three years budget framework. It provisions financing of 2.5 million per year which makes the start of the new academic building construction possible.  

On the UNWE holiday we start one of the most reasonable projects on the Operative Programme Regions in Growth, said the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov. A bit more than 40 million BGN are the funds of the Programme which will be used for the support of universities in the country and the UNWE project is the largest. The Minister outlined that the new building would give the opportunity of current and future students to study in a modern academic environment. Continue keeping the same spirit, ardour, enthusiasm and stand firmly the principle of academic spirit. You are the future of Bulgaria, addressed to the representatives of academic community the Minister.

Wishes to the students and lecturers were addressed also by Dimitar Dilchev, Mayor of the Students District who expressed his contentment with the fact that besides the commercial premises a building of educational infrastructure would be built in the area. He greeted the Rector Prof. Stattev for his courage to work on that project, search for funds and cope with the obstacles.

The Rector observed the tradition and broke symbolically a bottle of Champagne in the excavator corpus and wished the builders success (in the picture below).

The construction of new building of UNWE is one of the largest projects for restoring the educational infrastructure on the Operative Programme Regions in Growth. The total amount of investment is more than 11.7 million BNG and 4.5 million BGN of them are grant financial assistance by the Programme. These funds will help the improvement of material and technical facilities at the largest business university in the country and Southeastern Europe.

Tribute to the first founders

As a sign of gratitude to the memory of the UNWE first founders, flowers and wreaths were laid in front of the monument of Prof. Stephan Bobchev, founder and first Rector of the university.

Wall of Fame

The Rector Prof. Stattev opened the Wall of Fame - Lecturers and Alumni of UNWE in the Bulgarian Government Elite. At the ceremony attended Prof. Totev.

We go on following the symbols today. Firstly, we had a glance at the future through turning the first sod of the new building of UNWE and paid a tribute to the founder and first Rector of the university Prof. Stephan Bobchev and our establishers and now we finish with the relation between the past and present which leads us to the future – the Wall of Fame, outlined Prof. Stattev.

The Wall of Fame is the consecutive evidence that if you desire something powerfully it happens, pointed out the Rector and reminded that one of the initiators of the project had been Prof. Borislav Borisov, Honorary Rector and Honorary Professor of UNWE.

Since its establishment up to now our university is a serious forge for professionals for the Bulgarian elite and this Wall of Fame is an authentic evidence for it. The Wall is also part of the academic memory of our university, declared the Rector.

The elite and the government of our country are really forged at the UNWE which is an indicator for the importance of UNWE for Bulgaria, pointed out Prof. Totev. In the current government 9 of 17 ministers are lecturers and alumni of your university. You all should be proud of your achievements, declared Prof. Totev and wished the academic community of UNWE success in the future.

Prof. Stattev awarded the Honorary Sign of UNWE Rector to Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Lalyu Radulov, Rector of the university since 1990 to 1993 for his great contribution to the UNWE development and loyalty to its academic traditions (in the picture below).

Prof. Radulov expressed his thankfulness for the distinction and expressed his hope that the UNWE would continue working for the prosperity of Bulgaria.

In front of the newly opened Wall of Fame the Rector awarded Certificates to the lecturers who had acquired the academic position of Associate Professor of UNWE.
