Public Lecture by H. E. Mikola Baltaji, Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria
The Ukrainian society made an explicit choice in favour of Europe and paid a high price for it, said during his public lecture H. E. Mikola Baltaji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Bulgaria. The meeting with the Ambassador was organized by the International Relations Research Student Association (IRRSA) and it was the consecutive visit of a special guest at the university.

In the Ceremonial Hall H. E. Baltaji spoke to students on the European Way of Development in Ukraine. He expressed his joy of being again at the UNWE after so many years, examined the newest history of his country, emphasized on the increasing pressure in Ukraine, historical importance and lessons, occupation and annexation of Crimea, positions of the European Union and USA, Minsk agreements and sanctions against Russia, conflict in Donbas, etc.

H. E. Baltaji emphasized on the hybrid war led by Russia in Ukraine as well as on the current reforms in the country. He presented some facts about the conditions in Ukraine over the last three years as he examined the changes in the economy, fight against corruption, electronic register of property, judicial system, etc.

Ukraine has qualitatively changed. The major change concerns the awareness and attitude of mind of Ukrainians because as a result of the events they have answered themselves which direction to choose for the future development of the country and nation and it`s the direction to the European Union, pointed out H. E. Baltaji.

The meeting with the Ambassador was opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgy Chankov, Scientific Secretary of the International Relations Department. During the lecture a short film about Ukraine was presented.

Mikola Baltaji was born in the village of Petrovsk, Tarutin District of Odessa Region. He is heir of Bulgarian settlers in the Russian Empire during the times of Osman domination. He has graduated International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, in 1982 he has also completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Social and Economic Issues to the Ukrainian Academy of Science. He is Candidate of Historical Sciences and assistant translator from German and Bulgarian language.
In 1981 Mikola Baltaji has come to Bulgaria under the auspices of UNESCO.
