UNWE – Host of The IAEA Mission on Nuclear Security Master`s Degree Programme

The National and Regional Security Department at UNWE was the host for the Mission on the Programme for Technical Cooperation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The major topic of the meeting was the successfully implemented at our university Master`s degree programme in Economics of Defence and Security, specialization Nuclear Security in the English language. At the meeting attended Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stela Raleva, Vice Rector for Education in the EQD of Master and Distance Learning, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of the National and Regional Security Department and Dean of the Economics of Infrastructure Faculty, Kamolmas Jayen, Auditor at the IAEA, Boyan Ostoich from the Internal Audit Office, Alexander Rogachev, Director of the International Cooperation Directorate of Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA) and Valentin Velev from the NRA. In the presentation of the Programme took part also the students from both groups in Nuclear Security.

Assoc. Prof. Raleva opened the discussion and welcomed the guests at the UNWE, the largest and the most prestigious university in Bulgaria. She outlined that the Master`s degree programme in Nuclear Security had been one of the priority programmes for the UNWE with a great potential and she emphasized on the contribution of Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov and his team to its successful development.

Prof. Dimitrov presented the Nuclear Security Programme as he outlined that it had been an international programme – the only one in the world including scientists from various universities and institutes from Bulgaria and abroad implemented by the support of IAEA and NRA. Master`s degree programme is worked out and implemented in the frameworks of the Agreement of Cooperation between the UNWE and IAEA signed by the Rector Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev and the Director General of IAEA Yukiya Amano during his visit in Sofia in June 2014. Coordinator for the implementation of Agreement by the UNWE is Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov.  

Participants in the discussion

The representatives of IAEA asked various questions related to the Programme, improvement of academic process, communication between the UNWE and IAEA. The students from the Master`s degree programme attending in the hall took active part in the discussion.
