About the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation

Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (fa.ru/en) is one of the oldest Russian financial and economic expert training institution of higher education. Found in 1919, it now embraces all regions of Russia by its branch system, offering various programs at all levels of education: lyceum education, Bachelor, Master, Ph.D., Post-Doctorate, short courses, and professional training.

Structure

The University has come a long way. It has evolved from an institute and a finance and banking specialist training academy into a major research and education center. Today, the University incorporates:

  • 16 Faculties, 14 research Departments, 11 teaching Departments, 11 collaborative provision departments formed in cooperation with the employers, 2 Colleges and a Lyceum. 
  • 2 research centers and 2 research institutes; 
  • further education divisions that include 4 higher schools, 2 institutes, and a research center. 

In addition to the divisions listed above, the University incorporates 2 institutes, 5 centers, one agency, and a business school. It has 27 University Branches.

Educational Programs

The Financial University is one of the leading Russian higher education institutions. It offers 13 bachelor degree programs with 37 concentrations and 14 master degree programs with more than 60 concentrations with some of them partly or totally taught in English. 16 post-secondary training programs, and 35 professional development programs, incl. 10 МВА programs and 183 advanced training programs.

The Financial University has implemented and is improving the training scheme based upon the availability of various learning paths and modes of continuous education. The quality of training offered by the University is widely recognized and is due to the highly qualified teaching staff employed. As of 1 September 2018, there are 1,378 teaching staff members who are based in Moscow, including 1,116 holders of academic degrees. The number includes 301 Doctors of Sciences and 815 holders of Ph.D. degrees.

International Affairs

Having over 120 partners among leading higher education institutions in more than 50 countries, Financial University effectively fosters its academic mobility. Students can select different options for studying abroad and participate in international scholarship programs.

A century-old Financial University’s mission is to contribute to the development of the Russian Federation through the upbringing of harmoniously developed and socially responsible persons. The strategic goal of the Financial University is to evolve into the world’s leading research and education center that operates in line with the national strategic development objectives. This means strengthening of its position in the competition with other institutions, improvement of research quality and scope, transdisciplinary approach usage, flexibility and continuity of the teaching process, deep and multiform internationalization, more intensive use of technology and the search for new sources of financing.

 

About the University of National and World Economy

Established in 1920, the University of National and World Economy (unwe.bg/en) in Sofia is the largest and longest-running higher educational institution in South-eastern Europe. With an unequaled track record in Bulgaria, the University is considered as a leader in European higher education, playing an integral role in furthering educational standards in economics, management, administration, law, and politics.

With over 22,000 students and more than 500 lecturers, UNWE is well known for its educational excellence. During the last three evaluation procedures, in 2006, 2012 and 2018, UNWE was awarded the highest attainable accreditation rating by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency among all Bulgarian universities. Many employers often refer to it as the ‘Bulgarian Harvard’, due to the high academic performance of its graduates. Some of them have become prominent political and business figures, both at home and abroad.

Structure

UNWE has 8 faculties (General Economics Faculty, Faculty of Finance and Accountancy, Business Faculty, Faculty of Economics of Infrastructure, Faculty of International Economics and Politics, Management and Administration Faculty, Faculty of Applied Informatics and Statistics, Law Faculty) and 34 departments. The University strives to be the preferred place in Bulgaria for young people who want to acquire modern education, so it is constantly looking to develop and expand its bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and doctoral degree programs.

Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs

UNWE offers 43 Bachelor’s degree programs. Six of them being taught in English (Finance and Accounting; Economics; Business Economics and Management; Marketing and Strategic Planning; International Economic Relationships and Business Informatics and Communications). All programs have a total duration of 8 semesters (4 years).

The university offers 106 Master’s degree programs. Three of them being taught in English (Accounting, Financial Control and Finance, 2 semesters; International Business, 2 semesters; and Supply Chain Management, 2 semesters)

In addition, UNWE offers the following international Master’s degree programs taught in English:

  • Master’s Degree Program in Nuclear Security (3 semesters) – an international program with the active support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria
  • International Business (4 semesters) – a joint program with the University of International Studies of Rome (UNINT), Italy

Doctoral Degree Programs

UNWE offers numerous opportunities to obtain a doctorate: in a structured regular or part-time program or in an individual doctorate under supervision. Currently, more than 450 Ph.D. students from Bulgaria and abroad (Italy, Albania, Lebanon, etc.) are enrolled in 38 doctoral degree programs.

International Affairs

To form highly educated persons who can lead society to a more perfect and humane world, UNWE has established cooperation agreements with more than 160 higher education institutions from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The long-term objectives of the University have always been to work with these institutions on the development of joint master’s degree and doctoral programs, research projects and joint publications, distance learning opportunities, student and staff exchange, among others.

The ECTS applied at the UNWE enables the mobility of students between different programs as well as between the UNWE and other universities in Bulgaria and abroad.
