Meeting with The Director of Cervantes Institute for Bulgaria

At the university was delivered a public lecture on the Place of Spanish Language and Culture over the World by the Director of Cervantes Institute for Bulgaria Javier Valdivielso Odriozola. The event was organized by the Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics Department of UNWE.

In his lecture Mr. Valdivielso specified the place and importance of the Spanish language which is the second internationally spread language spoken by over 500 million people in the world. It is a native language for nearly 350 million residents and it is on the fourth place in the rankings as the most spoken language after Chinese, English and Hindi. The language of Cervantes is the second one by its importance for the international communication after the English language and it becomes more and more preferred for studying. Interesting fact is that the Spanish language takes the third position in the rankings of the most spoken languages in the online space and the second place for its use for communication in the social networks Twitter and Facebook. It is officially spoken in 21 countries in the world, outlined the Director of Cervantes Institute.

Javier Valdivielso Odriozola outlined also the activity and the mission of the cultural institution. Cervantes Institute is established to spread the language, history and lifestyle of the Spanish speaking countries. Its beginning has been set up in 1991 and now its centers are 76 on five continents. Its main activity is to conduct language courses for preparation and acquisition of DELE diploma for command of Spanish language and to organize theatrical, musical, literal and other kinds of events.

Mr. Valdivielso declared to students from the university the willingness of Cervantes Institute for Bulgaria to participate in an active cooperation with the UNWE and to provide economic literature in the Spanish language.
