A discussion on the Events in Ukraine and Their Geopolitical Dimensions and Consequences was organized at the university by the Student Association EGO POLITICO and the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria. Guest-lecturers were Solomon Passy, President of the Atlantic Club and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgy Chankov from the International Relations Department.

It has become a tradition our students to show sensitivity to the foreign and domestic political topics, pointed out at the opening of the meeting Assoc. Prof. Dr. Simeon Asenov, Scientific Secretary of the Political Science Department.

Solomon Passy made a short overview of the Atlantic Club activity since its establishment 24 years ago until now. In his public lecture he commented on the situation in Ukraine, crisis in relations with Russia, similarities and differences between Crimea and Kosovo, the possible scenarios for the further development of the situation. The lecturer assessed the position of Western countries, the impact of possible economic sanctions of the European Union to Russia, risks to the global and regional security, violations of the international regulations, the memorandum of Budapest, etc. He focused on the possible scenarios for dialogue and elaboration of new rules for interaction, the emerging new Cold War, identified some possible "crisis outbreaks" similar to Cyprus, Kosovo, Abkhazia and Ossetia.

Solomon Passy answered also the questions related to the political formations in Ukraine, exclusion of Russia from the G8, the exploration and exploitation of shale gas as an alternative to Russian gas supplies, etc.

Some specific information about the heterogeneous political power in Kiev today, leaders of the radical Ukrainian movement Right Sector and the role of other political parties and groups was given by Dr. Georgy Chankov.
