International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) for Law Students

A public lecture on the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) – Cambridge English: Legal by a guest-lecturer Petya Tsenova, Manager of Clients, Certificate and Intensive Programmes at the Britanica Center for Language Training was held at the UNWE. The lecture was organized by the Students Council jointly with the Britanica Center. Students were given useful information about the certificate, how to obtain it as well as an answer of the question: Why is the language preparation necessary for the best orientation in the labor market after the graduation.

Petya Tsenova presented the ILEC to the future lawyers.

The International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) proves the knowledge of the so called Legal English Language and its validity is life-long. It covers two levels of the language – B1 and C1. The ILEC is worked out by the Cambridge and TransLegal (an international company of lawyers-linguists). In her personal recommendation the guest-lecture Petya Tsenova said that candidates should be completed their third year of education because the basic knowledge necessary for the Certificate is in the field of commercial law, intellectual property and contract law studied during the first two years of education.

The exam consists from four parts – Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and lasts 3 hours and 30 minutes. The lecturer explained in details what is included in each component and how the candidates can successfully pass the exam.
