Meeting-Discussion with The Ambassador of Morocco

A meeting-discussion with H.E. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Bulgaria Latifa Aharbash was held at the Large Conference Hall. At the event organized by the International Relations Research Student Association (IRRSA) attended students and lecturers.

H.E. Latifa Aharbash spoke on the Way of Morocco: Evolition, Not Revolution. She examined the economic stability of the North African country and commented on the positive aspects of the so-called Arab Spring in the region reviewing the complex economic and social situation in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. Ambassador Aharbash highlighted the specifics in the historical development of Morocco and outlined that it was “a country of openness” with traditional multi-party system unlike many other African countries. We are not part of the Arab Spring today because we have made these changes many years ago, pointed out the Ambassador. We have a very strong institutions and monarchy which brings together different political participants - from extreme left to the very right ones. There is also a very active civil society in the country.

Ambassador Aharbash also outlined that the ambition of the most advanced North African country was to come as close as possible to the European standards of living. As a representative of the academic and cultural community she considers that one of the biggest advantages of her country is the right of difference - including cultural and religious one.

H.E. Latifa Aharbash has been appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Republic of Bulgaria and in the Republic of Macedonia in the beginning of March, 2013. Before it she had been State Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation in the previous government of the North African country for nearly five years. She had also been Director General of the Moroccan Public Radio, Director of the Higher Institute of Information and Communication. She had worked as a lecturer at the University of Law, Economics and Social Sciences in Paris. She had been a Consultant in Communications and Journalism Practices of several international companies. H.E. Latifa Aharbash is a co-author of two books on the role of women in the media and politics.
