Prof. D.Sc. (Med.) Anelia Klisarova, Minister of Education and Science Met with Students

Prof. D.Sc. (Med.) Anelia Klisarova, Minister of Education and Science met with students from the UNWE. At the meeting-discussion organized by the Themis Legal Development Union was commented the relation between the higher education and business as well as the professional realization of young people at the labour market.

The Minister pointed out some more important parts of her vision for Bulgarian education. It is expected that next year the education will be a priority and the budget will be higher than the current with 0.01% to 0.03% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). “This year we are going to do the budget not as amounts but as a policy”, specified Klisarova focusing on the relation between the higher education and business. It is a problem not only for our country but for the whole of Europe, explicitly declared the Minister and commented on the practical implementation of the first job and the program for lifelong learning. Prof. Klisarova pointed out also that it was necessary to be provided more resources for the fields and specialities which were needed by the economy and business. More funds for scholarships and internships are also provisioned, said she.

Aneliya Klisarova said it was very important to be related the higher education to the labour market. So far, the universities and practices have been at some distance but the right way is the intersection of their positions. The Education Minister commented also as an opportunity the widespread European practice – the business to point the universities the needed specialists in specific professional fields. According to Prof. Klisarova in our country is felt a lack of European qualifications framework which allow the employers to be aware of the level of competence of each graduated student.

The Minister also outlined that there were 48 career development centers to the universities in Bulgaria but they needed to have a better relation with the business. She also emphasized on the role of the university trustees for the professional orientation of students to a suitable working environment.

Now the leading indicator for the funding of universities is the number of students as well as the quality and rating system, pointed out the Minister. In a perspective plan she outlined also the application of 9-degrees classification of each graduated student which should be set as a criterion in the new Higher Education Act. One of the objectives of the strategy for development of higher education is that it should have high quality and attract young people to study in Bulgaria. It should be created such conditions of work and career development so young people to specialize in Europe but to return to Bulgaria, definitely said Prof. D.Sc. (Med.) Anelia Klisarova.
