Public Lecture on The Drugs Trafficking and International Terrorism

A public lecture on the Drugs Trafficking and International Terrorism was read by Rodolfo Peykov to students from the speciality Economics of Defence and Security. The forth lecture at the university by the former long standing official at the American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was organized by the National and Regional Security Department jointly with the International Institute of Security and Cooperation and the Center for Strategic Researches in Defence and Security at UNWE.

The expert on the drugs security and prevention Rodolfo Peykov presented some comparative and new facts related to the international drugs trafficking, revealed the methods for drugs production and transportation. By numerous photos he illustrated the movement of the world drugs trafficking and personified some of the “players” in the criminal business. The lecturer overviewed the global threat in recent years focusing also on the situation in Bulgaria. Data in a global plan for 2013 indicate that between 31.9 to 36.3 million people in the world use heroin and nearly 180.6 to 230.3 people – cannabis. The expert commented also on the real threat of new kind of drugs that had not been driven under the international control yet.

Students audience

In his second presentation the guest-lecturer commented on the crisis in Syria and the refugee flow situation outlining the problems in terms of security in the region and in the world.

The key to the solution lies in cooperation, outlined Rodolfo Peykov. According to him the interaction between the countries was crucial.

A special Certificate by the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Sttatev was awarded to Rodolfo Peykov for his overall work in the field of security and for the cooperation with the UNWE. It was given to him by Chief Assist. Dr. Konstantin Pudin, Scientific Secretary of the National and Regional Security Department.
