Academic Speech on The Postmodern European Art

Academic speech on the occasion of conferment the academic position of Associate Professor was read by Dr. Georgy Tchankov, Scientific Secretary of the International Relations Department. Lecturers and students in their fourth year from the speciality European Studies attended at his presentation titled How to Understand the Postmodern Art.

Prof. Dr. Georgy Genov, Head of the International Relations Department presented Assoc. Prof. Tchankov from “his birth during the Cold War” to his work at the university and “his important presence in the academic exchange between Bulgaria and Germany”. “The topic is particularly interesting for students from the speciality European Studies, oriented his presentation Assoc. Prof. Tchankov by the addition that “at the rational economic university from time to time should have “a wobble” also to the irrational essence of the human nature”.

The subjective attitude in the art is unavoidable, outlined Assoc. Prof. Tchankov presenting his point of view as “a reactionary”. In his expose he took a view of development of the art over the time beginning with the famous picture by Edvard Munk “The Cry” (and its record-breaking price), examined the questions “what is an art?, and “what is a beauty?”, the propaganda aims, political scene and art as well as the trends and terms as cubism, surrealism, abstractionism paying attention to the modern art.
