Our Students Won The First Place in A National European Competition 2012

Our students won the first place in the second edition of the national students` competition on the New Challenges to European Parliament. In the team who won participated Anna Lalova, Iliana Dafova, ivelina Atanasova, Krasimira Georgieva and Strahil Panekov, students in specialties European Studies and Political Science at the UNWE. The award for the winners is a visit of a plenary session of the European Parliament in September in Strasburg.

The competition was carried out at the Information Center of the European Parliament in Sofia and five universities took part in it – UNWE, St.Climent Ohridski University of Sofia, the New Bulgarian University, Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv and the American University of Blagoevgrad. The winners were determined by a jury including the Bulgarian members of the European Parliament – Dr. Andrei Kovachev, and Mariya Nedelcheva from the European National Party to the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, Kristiyan Vigenin from the Bulgarian Social Party, Dr. Antoniya Parvanova from the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe to the National Movement for Stability and Progress as well as Violeta Stanichich, Head of the European Parliament Information Office in Bulgaria, Angel Georgiev, Chairman of the National Representative of Students Councils in Bulgaria, Elitsa Zlateva, journalist from the specialized internet issued Еuinside.eu.

Student teams discussed topics about the solidarity between generations for the exit from the crisis, the green energy in Europe, the future of Bulgaria in the European Union, etc. Participants demonstrated their high level of preparation as they cited clauses from some European Union Agreements, criteria for membership in the Euro Area and the Shengen Agreement as well as facts from different European politics.
