Authors` Team from the National and Regional Security Department Presented the Book "Corporate Security"

The National and Regional Security Department presented the book "Corporate Security" dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of UNWE and the 30th Anniversary of the Department. The event was held in hybrid format - in the Large Conference Hall and online in MS Teams, it was broadcast live through the University website and Facebook profiles of the University and the Department.

The National and Regional Security Department is the founder and leader in the education in Economics and Corporate Security Management in Bulgaria. The book was elaborated by an authors` team including lecturers from the Department and experts from the practice.

Head of authors` team is Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov - Head of Department and Rector of UNWE. The book summarizes the long-term experience obtained in the frameworks of education in Corporate Security for Bachelor's and Master's degrees implemented by the Department at the UNWE and its research work in the field of corporate security.

The book is intended for a wide range of readers including people who are professionally committed to corporate security, students studying disciplines related to the corporate security as well as anyone interested in security at business level.

The presentation of the book in the Large Conference Hall was attended by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noncho Dimitrov, Deputy Dean for Quality and International Cooperation of the Economics of Infrastructure Faculty, the lecturers from the National and Regional Security Department - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tsvetan Tsvetkov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Konstantin Pudin and Ch. Asssist. Dr. Atanas Dimitrov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolay Krushkov - reviewer of the book, Head of Corporate Security of International Enterprises and lecturer at the UNWE Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Department, Prof. Dr. Kiril Stoychev, Vice-Rector and lecturer at the Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosen Kirilov, Director of the Interuniversity Center for Career Development and Acting Director of the Center for Computer Innovative Systems, lecturers and Ph.D students. The event provoked great interest and it was attended online by lecturers, Ph.D students, undergraduates, partners and friends of the Department.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tsvetan Tsvetkov, moderator for the event, expressed thankfulness for the great interest in the book and clarified that although it is developed as a textbook, it also contains many elements of monography. He pointed out that the book comes out at the right time and provides several additional tools that can be used to analyse existing and emerging risks and threats, to analyse opportunities to overcome them as well as in what extent it is possible to transform threats and challenges into opportunities.

Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov welcomed the participants in the event and emphasized that although the creation of the book had taken time it appeared at the right time when the importance and place of corporate security are fully realized at all levels, not only in the security business or in another specific sector. "More than 10 years ago, our Department created the specialty Corporate Security as Master's degree programme which has admission so far. It is of interest not only for Master`s degree applicants, it is also sought by employers. Over the years we have trained more than 20 generations of students in Corporate Security. I am convinced that the book will be very useful for students both during the learning process and in practice. I am glad that we have set the foundations of this discipline by the point of view of economics and corporate security management that supports the overall development of the company, the institution and is relevant to the overall national security. Let's wish ourselves to create more books of this kind", said Prof. Dimitrov.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolay Krushkov expressed his contentment with the book and the authors` team including exceptional names with extensive experience in security management. "The importance of corporate security is enormous, it must provide employees, customers, corporate assets and information as well as the company reputation. There is no book in Bulgaria that covers such a large scale of the aspects of corporate security. This book offers to fill the existing deficits. On the one hand, the literature necessary for education is created, on the other hand - corporate security educational programmes have been created and on the third place - the Department has exceptional academic members. I give my high appreciation for the book", pointed out Assoc. Prof. Krushkov and wished the Department to certify managers in the field of corporate security in the future.

Prof. Dr. Georgy Botev, reviewer of the book from the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, joined the event online and also gave high assessment for the work done by the author's team. He outlined that writing the book is a great achievement that will meet not only the necessity of textbook for students but also the necessity of scientific literature in the field of corporate security.

Prof. Tilcho Ivanov, doyen of the Department, joined online, greeted the participants for their interest and pointed out that the book is a colossal work, result of long efforts. He paid special attention to the technical layout and symbolism of the pump on the cover. "It is a symbol of security, it must rotate constantly to maintain stability, the risks and threats must be monitored for every goal and activity if you want to live in peace. Security is the ability to manage the risks the systems face - public, personal or other kinds. If there is no adequate risk assessment, this adequate package of capabilities that are necessary to neutralize the risks as far as possible cannot be found. The complexity in this task is their rapid variability.” He outlined the great importance and necessity of the book for the healthy corporate business development in Bulgaria.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noncho Dimitrov expressed his gratitude to colleagues from the Department for the support and encouragement during the difficult and complex process of its creation. He emphasized that knowledge makes sense only when it passes on to generations. "This book reached you due to the experience obtained over the years. In the book I have emphasized on what kind of knowledge portfolio should have the modern manager responsible for the corporate security. There is certainly a lot to be said about science and the new areas such as the cybersecurity are a challenge but you will find more information about it in the book”, pointed out Assoc. Prof. Dimitrov.

"I looked at the book while we were in the hall and what made a very strong impression on me was the spirit in it. Corporate security can only be achieved when there is an integrity in the whole process", he emphasized. "In my work and in my daily commitments at the university this integrity is very important and I appreciate the fact that it is embedded in the book. I am sure that the publication will achieve great success and great interest among readers and wider audience, as the students as in the field of business", outlined Assoc. Prof. Kirilov.

The book "Corporate Security" is the first in Bulgaria created in a volume of 421 pages. Guided by the idea that corporate security does not only mean protecting and guaranteeing the survival of the corporation but above all ensuring competitive advantages and prosperity, the authors` team has tried to cover the main aspects of corporate security and its management. Seventeen chapters consistently clarify the views on corporate security, corporate security policy and management, the place and importance of business continuity and risk management in the modern concept of security at corporate level, managerial roles in corporate security and security culture, then the attention is focused on various aspects of corporate security - personal security, physical security, as well as cybersecurity - network and information security.
