A student girl and two lecturers presented to Rectors Managing Body their project on Two-Factor System of Authentication in Academic Process which was patented and registered as useful model by the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria.

During the meeting

Head of the project is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lyuben Boyanov, lecturer at the Information Technologies and Communications Department. Participants in the project are Katina Kyoreva, Master of Business Informatics and Communications and Dr. Venko Andonov, part-time lecturer at the Information Technologies and Communications Department and Chief Expert at the Information Technologies Directorate (in the picture below from the right to the left).

I am glad that lecturers and students work together, outlined the Rector Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev. He greeted the participants in the project pointing out that the way to digitalization of processes should be continually pursued.

The idea is collective and it has been discussed for a long time. The reason to come to it are the cases where students go in for an examination using another person`s identity. We made a model with modern tools such as the facial recognition by an artificial intelligence. It was implemented in the Master`s Thesis of Katina Kyoreva. The model is tested. The colleagues work very well. The most important thing is the participation of a student girl in the project, pointed out Assoc. Prof. Boyanov.

The project registered as No. 3082 U1 at the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria comprises of five modules: database server, electronic device, computer, camera and card reader device. The system is designated to provide higher level of security and authentication in the process of electronic training. The authentication through electronic cards instead of paper student books in the academic process provides lots of possibilities and comfort – it allows the trainees to have immediate information on their academic status and performance as well as to make immediate registration during the lessons or examinations with no chance of using another person`s electronic card. The possibilities of the two-factor system of authentication by facial recognition enhance the security level of the academic process.
