From 13th until 17th of February 2018 Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania) hosted training of teachers specialising in mediation. This training was organised in the frame of ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnership project, coordinated by Turiba University with the pparticipation of the University of National and World Economy.

In autumn 2016 the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in collaboration with 5 partner universities launched the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project which will develop an on-line tool to help students acquire skills and knowledge in the management of international mediation processes and dispute resolution.

Training of lecturers is part of many activities of this project. Each partner University has mediation courses as part of their study programmes. Lecturers in each country are using different methods and study materials. This training will not only improve knowledge and skills of the teachers, but also will give the possibilities for experience exchange and networking. 12 lecturers from Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Italy, Czech Republic and Austria are participating in the training.

Mediation is an out-of-court dispute resolution procedure. The mediation process is led by a professional mediator in an entirely voluntary process – participants themselves agree whether and when to start mediation process and resolve their dispute. Mediation can take place both in civil cases (for example, in family, work or commercial disputes, etc.), in criminal cases (the perpetrator agreeing with the victim) and also in administrative matters. Mediation in Bulgaria and in the rest of Europe is growing popular. The courts may refer the parties of the dispute to try it or the disputants themselves upon their own initiative may attempt to achieve a resolution with the facilitation of a mediator.

The project is being implemented under the coordination of Turiba University in cooperation with UNWE, University of Genova (Italy), Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), the University of Graz (Austria) and the Prague University of Economics (Czech Republic).

The project is supported by the European Union ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnership programme. Project Number: 2016-1-LV01-KA203-022660.

Project implementation period: September 1, 2016 until April 30, 2019.
