The Rector Greeted The Academic Community of St. Climent Ohridski University of Sofia

Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev, Rector of UNWE and Deputy Chairman of the Rectors Council in the Republic of Bulgaria took part in the academic celebration on the occasion of the patron holiday of St. Climent Ohridski University of Sofia. The history and the present of Alma Mater – the first Bulgarian university – are a spiritual emanation of the centuries-old Bulgarian educational and scientific tradition, pointed out in his Greeting address Prof. Stattev.

“This yeas we celebrate the 1 100 Anniversary of your patron – St. Climent Ohrisdki – disciple of the Saint brothers Cyril and Metodii, founder of educational school, “father and enlightener of Bulgaria”. Let`s make a deep academic and human bow to his sacred activity and to the activity of our first enlighteners who has found the University of Sofia thinking about the future of our motherland and about the education of young people. You, their worthy followers, keep and develop the academic traditions and up build what your founders have been created”, pointed out the Rector of UNWE. He greeted the Managing Body of the University of Sofia for its firmness in asserting the academic autonomy and primordial values of the Bulgarian higher education and science.

Prof. Stattev declared that the UNWE and the University of Sofia had always been and would always be together because they had been related by their common genealogical origin, their common presence and their common mission and values.

The Rector of our university reminded that the founder of UNWE Prof. Stephan Bobchev had been one of the famous Professors of the University of Sofia, one of the founders of Bulgarian Literary Association, Bulgarian Academy of Science. “We have a common origin and we have to keep the academic spirit of our founders and first enlighteners”, said Prof. Stattev and awarded the Commemorative Medal of Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE to Prof. D.Sc.(Phil.) Anastas Gerdzhikov, Rector of the University of Sofia for his contribution to the development of academic cooperation between the UNWE and St. Climent Ohridski Unevrsity of Sofia (in the picture below).

Prof. Stattev read also a Greeting address on behalf of Prof. Lyuben Totev, Rector of the University of Mining and Geology and Chairman of the Rectors Council in the Republic of Bulgaria.
