Visit of IAEA Director General to Bulgaria

On 30 June and 1 July 2014 the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency /IAEA/ Yukiya Amano visited our country at the invitation of the Bulgarian Foreign Minister. During a meeting, the Director General and the Foreign Minister discussed the excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and the Agency.

Minister Vigenin and Director Amano discussed the implementation of commitments by Iran under the IAEA Cooperation Agreement and the Agency's role with regard to the nuclear programme of Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The issue of the future of nuclear power after the earthquake in Japan in 2011 and the accident in Fukushima was also discussed. Director Amano visited Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant where he was acquainted with the measures taken by the Plant after the accident in Fukushima.

In the frameworks of the visit the Rector Prof. D.Sc./Econ./ Statty Stattev and the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano signed a Cooperation Agreement between the University of National and World Economy and the International Atomic Energy Agency for the establishment of Master's Degree in Nuclear Security at the UNWE in the academic year 2015/2016.
