On December 14, 2022 the UNWE Academic Council unanimously voted the proposal for awarding the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of UNWE to the European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Economy that Works for People, submitted by Prof. Dr. Rumen Brusarsky, Dean of the Finance and Accountancy Faculty.

The honorary academic title is awarded for his significant contribution of Valdis Dombrovskis to building and strengthening the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union, strengthening the international role of the euro, the European Union's trade policy and the economy that works for the people.
