ABOUT THE JOURNAL


Economic Alternatives is a peer-reviewed academic journal indexed in Scopus (ASJC: General Economics, Econometrics and Finance).


The journal publishes original research contributing to:
- Economic Theory
- Applied Economics and Information Systems
- Political Economy
- Financial and Monetary Economics
- Interdisciplinary Economics

SUBMISSION POLICY

The journal considers only manuscripts that:
- have not been previously published;
- are not under consideration elsewhere;
- present original scholarly contributions.

All submissions must be made via ScholarOne Manuscripts. Registration and access is available at http://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/ecoalt .

Follow the on-screen instructions, filling in the requested details before proceeding

Your username will be your email address and you have to input a password of at least 8 characters in length and containing two or more numbers

Click Finish and your account has been created.

The proposed papers are submitted to the Editorial Board of the Economic Alternatives journal. Article submissions should be only made through electronic submission module on ScholarOne Manuscripts platform. To submit a paper for publication in the journal, authors need to create a new account and/or log in if they already have one. We kindly request authors to carefully read Instructions & Forms before submitting their articles for review. Once logged in, authors can see a chronology of submitted manuscripts and send a new one through “Start New Submission”. The process of sending a new manuscripts includes 7 basic steps:

-           Select type of the manuscript, fill in the title and abstract in English language.

-           Write and/or choose keywords. (The number of the keywords should not exceed 5 words).

-           Add co-authors, if any.

-           Specify the organization that funded your research, if any. Answer the addition questions.

-           Upload your files.

-           Final review of the completed information and files, conformation and sending the manuscript.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION AND FORMATTING

1.         Language: Academic English.

First page must include:
- Title
- Authors – the first name and family name of the author (authors)
- Abstract (max. 300 words) - avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract
- Keywords (max. 5)
- JEL codes - at least one classification code according to the Classification System as used by the Journal       of         Economic        Literature            (JEL,   see https://www.aeaweb.org/econlit/jelCodes.php?view=jel).

2.         A footnote on the same sheet should give the academic position, organization (institution) which the author/s is/are affiliated with, address for correspondence, and email address.

3.         It is preferable that the submitted text consists of an introduction, discussion of the relevant literature, explanation of the methodology, data use and sources, description of the results, and a conclusion. The footnotes must be consecutively numbered with Arabic numbers and their number and volume should be limited. The presented formulas must be numbered (1), (2) etc. – the numbers should be on the right side of the formulas. If it is necessary, the formulas proofs can be developed on a separate paper sheet, but they are not published. All the graphics and diagrams must be marked as figures, consecutively numbered with Arabic numbers. The title should be under the figure. The tables must be consecutively numbered with Arabic numbers and with titles (above the tables). The source of the data in the table should be indicated under the table. In the tables and figures only English text may be included. Non-English words should appear in italics.

 

REFERENCING STYLE

The Journal applies APA style of referencing.

General Rules for the Reference List

The list appears after the main text and is not numbered.

Sources are listed in alphabetical order by the author’s family name.

Reference List Formatting Examples

Monographs (Books):

Format: Family Name, Initial., (Year). Title of the Book. Place of Publication: Publisher.

Example: Porter, M. (1990). The competitive advantage of nations. The Free Press.

Example with multiple authors and edition: Post, J., Lawrence, A., & Weber, J. (1999). Business and society (9th ed.). Irwin/McGraw-Hill.

Periodicals (Journal Articles):

Format: Family Name, Initial. and Family Name, Initial. (Year). Title of the Article. Journal Title, Volume (Issue), pp. pages.

Example: Farrell, J., & Shapiro, C. (2008). How strong are weak patents? American Economic Review, 98(4), 1347–1369.

Contributions to Collective Works (Book Chapters):

Format: Family Name, Initial. (Year), Chapter Title, in Initial. Family (ed.), Book Title, Place of Publication: Publisher, pages.

Example: Friedman, M. (1991). The social responsibility of business is to increase its profits. In J. Bower (Ed.), The craft of general management (pp. 287–296). Harvard Business School Publications.

 

Internet Sources:

Format: Author/Editor (Year), Article Title, Journal Title, [Online], Volume (Part), Available URL [Date accessed].

Example: Hart, K. (1998) Hart, K. (1998). The place of the 1898 Cambridge anthropological expedition to the Torres Straits (CAETS) in the history of British social anthropology. Science as Culture, 11(1). http://human-nature.com/science-as-culture/hart.html

Sources originally in Cyrillic must be translated into English, adding "(in Bulgarian)" at the end.

Example: Tsankov, A. (1910). The capital and the profit from it [Original work in Bulgarian]. State Publishing House.

In-Text Citation Examples

When the author is not mentioned in the sentence: (Krugman et al., 1997).

When multiple authors are mentioned in the text: Born (1998) and Jones (2001) demonstrated that....

Multiple publications by one author in different years: (Barney, 1991; 1994).

Multiple publications by one author in the same year: Porter (1990a) and Porter (1990b).

Secondary referencing (citing a source mentioned in another work): Brown (2000, cited in Smith, 2004, p.120).

! Note: When citing in-text, APA 7 requires the use of 'et al.' from the first mention if there are three or more authors (e.g., Post et al., 1999). For works with two authors, both names are always listed (e.g., Farrell & Shapiro, 2008)


PEER REVIEW AND EDITORIAL POLICY

All research and review articles are subject to double-blind peer review.

TYPES OF PUBLICATIONS

Research Articles: 7,000 – 20,000 words.
Review Articles: 4,000 – 7,000 words.
Book Reviews: up to 1,500 words.

Important: The journal does not publish summaries of PhD or DSc dissertations.

Originality and proper citation are required. For further details, please refer to Publication Ethics.

COPYRIGHT

Copyright is transferred to UNWE Academic Publishing House and Economic Alternatives. The author/s of the accepted papers must sign Author Declaration and Consent to Publish Agreement.

Authors may use freely figures or tables of their published papers without prior consent of the journal provided that EAJ is mentioned as the original source of publication. For reproducing other parts or full text papers authors must obtain prior permission from the Editor-in-chief of EAJ.
