Prof. Paul Sracic about The Presidential Elections in The USA 2016

Prof. Paul Sracic, Chair of the Politics and International Relations Department at the Youngstown University, Ohio, delivered to students and lecturers of UNWE a lecture on the Presidential Elections in the USA 2016. The meeting was organized by the International Relations Research Student Association (IRRSA) in a partnership with the USA Embassy Youth Council.

Prof. Sracic is one of the few lecturers who are able to give an insight view on the Presidential elections in the USA, pointed out Prof. Dr. Plamen Ralchev, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department. The lecture by Prof. Sracic will broaden our understanding on the topic and will give us an opportunity to see the situation from other point of view, specified Prof. Ralchev.

Prof. Sracic began his presentation sharing the similar point of view as other analytics of the upcoming 58th Presidential elections in the USA on 8 December when it will be voted for the 45th President and 48th Vice President. The lecturer outlined that the current elections are very different from any other ones in the history of USA, the vote is unpredictable and it is less spoken that the elections will strongly affect the foreign policy of the country.

The American Professor examined the structure of the US political system pointing out the principle of shared powers which had been a leading principle for the President and the Congress as he emphasized on the huge role of the supreme legislative body. He gave some examples to prove the statement about the decisive role of the Congress for forming and determining the course of the country.

Prof. Sracic examined the dynamics of the election process and gave some comparative facts. He analyzed the results of the primary elections and featured the rates of the candidates from the Democratic and Republican Party Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as he compared according to some specific indicators their programmes, the vote in different US states determining them in the election map as “predictable” and “unpredictable” depending on the party and electoral moods, the scandals during the campaigns of both candidates, etc.
