Lecturer from The UNWE Participated in The Managing Body of International Project in Mexico

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Polya Kastamunska from the Public Administration Department participated as one of the Managers in a joint international project between the Institute for Public Management and Community Service, Florida International University, USA and the National Federation of Municipalities in Mexico. The project was focused on the international cooperation and local government in Mexico and its major activity was the organization and conduction of National Conference on the Cooperation International para Municipios held in Mexico City during the period 29-30 August.

The host of the event was the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores) and Co-Chairpersons of the Organizing Committee were: Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (SRE), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Polya Katsamunska (UNWE-FIU), Americo Zuniga, Federacio de Municipios de Mexico (FENAMM), Maria Casar Perez, Agencia Mexicana de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AMEXCID) and Salomon Abedrop Lopez, Comisión Nacional del Agua (CONAGUA).

In the Conference took part more than 300 representatives of the local authority in Mexico – managing bodies and officials of the local administration, representatives of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international organizations as John-Mary Kauzia – Chief of Governance and Public Administration Capacity Branch, Division for Public Administration and Development Management, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations, Arturo Herrera – Sector Manager: Governance Global Practice, Latin America and Caribbean Region, World Bank, etc.

Assoc. Prof. Polya Katsamunska participated also in a separate Plenary Conference Session devoted to the Policies and Assistance of the European Union and United States for Local Government. She delivered a report on the Local Government in Bulgaria: Integration and Relations within the European Union which has provoked great interest. At the initiative of the hosts the report will be translated in Spanish and it will be published in the magazine issued by Federacio de Municipios de Mexico (FENAMM).
