For a consecutive year the students from the speciality Economic Sociology and speiality Sociology at the General Economics Faculty of UNWE took active part in a research made by the Analytical Division at the Supreme Prosecutor`s Office of Cassation.

The research was devoted to crimes as telephone frauds. It was assigned by the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Bulgaria. The topic was chosen because of the large number of telephone frauds over the last years, the considerable number of damages caused to citizens by them as well as for the insufficient effectiveness of counteractions to such kind of criminality.

Our students and Chief Assist. Dr. Georgy Petrunov from the Economic Sociology Department

The research consists of several components and our students jointly with lecturers from the Economic Sociology Department implemented a considerable part of the media content analysis – the crime telephone frauds during the period of 1 January 2011 – 31 December 2015 in Bulgarian printed and electronic media. Our representatives participated also in the analysis of the profile of victims and perpetrators of such crimes, size of damages, basic mechanisms for implementation of frauds, formulation of suggestions for improving the effectiveness of counteraction, etc.

The results of the research and formulated suggestions are given to the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Bulgaria and they will be brought to public knowledge.
