Meeting-Discussion on The European IT Law

Representatives of LIBRe Foundation (LIBRe) discussed the European IT Law with students from the UNWE. The event had an objective to inform students about the contest organized by the Foundation - Contest LIBRe Essay 2016 as well as to discuss the actual issues of ICT Law.

LIBRe is a non-governmental non-for-profit organization with the ideal goal to contribute to legal and policy engagement in Internet Governance and penetration of new technologies, information management and development of interactive applied solutions, publishing and training.

During the meeting

The lecturers Alexandra Tsvetkova and Ivo Emanuilov from LIBRe outlined some key topics in the discussion. They spoke about What is ICT Law and Why It Is So Important as well as about the Actual Issues of IT Law and What`s the Common between Google, Ebay, E-Commerce, Delfi and Roman Law.

Ivo Emanuilov gave modern examples to explain the meaning of IT Law. He spoke about the observation and monitoring at the workplace. Internet is a network with closed architecture which does not obey to state boundaries. Although in some countries there are cases of internet censorship they are practically isolated national reactions which can`t change the over national internet features. We continue regulating the relations in the virtual environment through the measures at national level. That`s why in the 90s appeared the need of unified rules for controlling the activity of participants in the informational exchange, explained Ivo Emanuilov.

The students took active part in the discussion. They were informed in details about the contest organized by the Foundation. Its representatives explained that the contest had been opened for students having multidisciplinary interests without limits of speciality. The essays of participants should show knowledge, creative thinking and interest in the field of digital society regulation. The author having highly assessed essay will be awarded an opportunity for participation in the IT Law Summer Academy of Leibniz Universität in Hannover.
