40th Anniversary of The International Economics and Politics Faculty

The 40^th Jubilee Anniversary of the International Economic Relations and Politics Faculty was celebrated through an Official Assembly in Maxima Aula. The event was attended by the Rector of the university Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, Prof. Veselka Pavlova, Vice-Rector for Education in the EQD of Master, Distance and Lifelong Learning, Prof. Dr. Valentin Goev, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research Activity, Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Danail Danailov, Rector of UNWE since 1980 to 1987, Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Lilia Karakasheva, the first Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Georgy Genov, Dean of the International Economics and Politics Faculty, lecturers, students and guests.

Prof. Genov presented the history of the Faculty since its foundation till now focusing on its achievements. For the last four decades more than 10 thousand students and over 200 Doctoral students were educated at the Faculty. There are 22 Professors and 27 Associate Professors. The Dean outlined that the Faculty has a good international rate. Our graduates work successfully over four continents and nearly one hundred of them work in international organizations, pointed out Prof. Genov. He also mentioned that the graduates from the Faculty had considerably contributed to the changes and governance in the country. We are famous with the success of our students in the field of corporative management and governance in many of the successful companies in Bulgaria, added Prof. Genov. He expressed his thankfulness to the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev for the support.     

In Maxima Aula

It`s a high honour for me on behalf of the Academic Managing Body of UNWE and personally of me to greet you on the occasion of the 40^th birthday of the International Economics and Politics Faculty, outlined in his welcoming speech the Rector. The Faculty was opened in 1995 as an assignee of the International Economic Relations Faculty established in 1975 and today the Faculty is approved and authoritative academic structure having four Departments: International Economic Relations and Business – the first specialized unit in Bulgaria for preparation of professionals in the field of international trade; International Relations Department – the first specialized unit in the country for preparation of professionals for Bulgarian politics and diplomacy; Political Science Department – the first specialized unit at the UNWE and the second one in the country for preparation of professionals in the field of public administration and non-governmental sector and the Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics Department, pointed out Prof. Stattev.

The Rector outlined that over the last four decades the Faculty had kept and developed with dignity the academic traditions as an inheritor of one of the three Faculties – the Diplomatic Consular Faculty of the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences - the predecessor of UNWE, as an inheritor of the spirit of the university founders and their ideas related to obtaining new skills and knowledge and foreign language education. Prof. Stattev expressed his thankfulness to the lecturers for their high professionalism, for the love to students and university, for their self-exactingness and stable striving for enhancing the quality of academic and scientific research work. He pointed out that the results of their loyalty to the common mission are a reason of being proud because hundreds graduates from the Faculty are among the best specialists in our country and abroad in the field of international economic relations and business, international relations, political science, etc. The Rector also expressed his confidence that in the future the Faculty would be in the vanguard of the academic achievements of UNWE.

The Rector greeted the Minister Lilyana Pavlova who has graduated the speciality International Economic Relations at the UNWE and pointed out that the alumni always remain related with their university.

Prof. Stattev awarded to the Dean Prof. Genov the Commemorative medal of Prof. Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE for the successful achievements of the Faculty and on the occasion of its jubilee (in the picture below).

The Rector also awarded to both of the doyens of the Faculty – Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Danail Danailov and Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Lilia Karakahseva a Statuette of the monument of Prof. Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE for their merits to the UNWE and on the occasion of their 80^th jubilee anniversary (in the picture below).

Prof. Danailov expressed his thankfulness for the award and for the celebration of his 80^th jubilee anniversary. I am glad that in spite of the difficulties we have had we established the Faculty and the results are obvious, declared the Professor.

Today after 40 years the Faculty has a great authority not only in the country but also abroad, shared Prof. Karakasheva.

Our Faculty and our speciality stood stable over the hard years as one of the most prestigious and most authoritative ones, declared in her welcoming speech Minister Pavlova. I am convinced that due to the lecturers at the Faculty the UNWE has approved not only as the largest higher school in the country but also as the university having the highest rate, outlined the Minister. Pavlova expressed her thankfulness to her lecturers and most of all to Prof. Karakasheva and Prof. Danailov who had assisted for her successful doctorate.
