On 21 May the Governing Council of Bulgarian National Bank elected a new Bulgarian Mint Board of Directors. On 26 May at its first session the new Board of Directors elected Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev as Chairman of the Board.

The Bulgarian Mint is opened on 28 July 1952. For the first time after the Liberation it has begun the stamping of Bulgarian coins in the country. Ten years later – in 1962 it has been incorporated a technology for production of orders and medals. Since then till today the Mint produces all the state distinctions in compliance with the systems for orders and awards of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Mint is a trade company responsible for the production of all circulating coins used as a legal tender on the territory of the country and it is the only producer of commemorative coins from precious and base metals emitted by the Bulgarian National Bank.
