Public Lecture on The Political Economy and “The Korean Case”

A public lecture to students from the speciality International Economic Relations was delivered by Dr. Han Min Yoon, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in our country. The meeting was organized on the initiative of Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Bistra Boeva, lecturer at the International Economic Relations and Business Department and Director of the Institute of Economics and Politics as well as by the assistance of Prof. Antoaneta Vasileva, Dean of the International Economics and Politics Faculty and Assist. Hrabrin Ivanchev, Director of Kia Motors for Bulgaria.

During the public lecture

In her lecture on the Introduction to Political Economy – the Korean Case, Dr. Min Yoon formulated the issue of political economy and democracy, spoke about the liberalization of financial markets and its impact on the economy, commented on the rise of South Korea from one of the poorest countries in the 50's of the last century to its development as the 12th economic power in the world.

Basing on her research Dr. Min Young revealed the key factors to the success of the Korean economy. The rise is based on the long pursued policy of growth driven by the country and attraction of foreign capitals, the so called chaebol - family conglomerates and investment in the education and qualification of the workforce, pointed out the lecturer. She commented also on the reasons for rethinking the economic model of the country, the motives for promoting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, the transformation to a green and sustainable economy, etc.
