International Conference on The Occasion of The 90th Anniversary of The First Student Sports Club in Bulgaria
The Physical Education and Sport Department held a Scientific Conference with international participation on the Modern Tendencies, Problems and Innovations in the Physical Education and Sport at the Universities. The academic Forum was held on the occasion of the 90th Anniversary of the First Student Sports Club in Bulgaria. It was under the patronage of the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev.
At the Conference attended Prof. Dr. Valentin Goev, Vice Rector on Scientific Research Activity, Senior Lecturer Spas Stavrev, Head of the Department, Prof. Dimitar Mihailov, Vice Rector of the National Sports Academy, Alexander Naumovski, Chaiman of the Federation of Sports Pedagogues of the Republic of Macedonia, Assoc. Prof. Zlatko Dzhurov, Chairman of the University Sports Association “Academic”, Prof. Georgy Yankov, Chairman of St. George The Victorious Sports Club for Lecturers and Officials of UNWE, Prof. Yordan Ivanov from the University of Mining and Geology, lecturers, students and guests.

“Our sports Department is something extremely valuable because the sport has a great importance for the development and lives of our students”. Those were the words Prof. Stattev opened the scientific Forum. The university Managing Body is impressed from our sports Department which is a worthy member of our academic family. Congratulations to you for the idea to celebrate this significant Anniversary because it is a strong sign of honour and respect to the glorious traditions of our university. It is an occasion to remember two important facts that we have the reason to be proud of. The first is that the beginning of the organized student sports movement in Bulgaria is set up at our university and the second is that we celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the student sports at the UNWE, declared the Rector. We have the most modern university sports complex in Bulgaria. The number of our sport achievements increases. Each victory of our sportsmen is a contribution to the reputation of the UNWE and integral part of our united efforts to work for its prosperity, added Prof. Stattev.

Prof. Mihailov greeted the Department and wished success to the Conference on behalf of the Rector of the National Sports Academy. “All discussions which will accompany our work will contribute to the personal development of the participants, to the sports science progress and making of contacts which will assist the successful implementation of ideas”, outlined Prof. Mihailov.

It is a great honour and excitement to me to attend this Forum which continues the tradition of the sport and sport science, said Assoc. Prof. Dzhurov. He awarded the Association Mark to the Rector.

The striving to achieve a harmony between the physical and intellectual development of the man dates back to a millennium. The real university should actively develop the university sports. This is typical for our university. We are proud of the success of our teams, outlined Prof. Yankov.

Greeting addresses were made by the Sport Departments of St. Climent Ohriski University of Sofia and by the Sport and Physical Therapy Department of the Medical University.
In the scientific Forum participated representatives of universities from the Republic of Macedonia, Albania, Turkey, etc.
