Dr. Plamen Ralchev from the Department of International Relations at our university took part in an international workshop organized by the British Institute at Ankara and the International Strategic Research Organization (USAK) on “Rethinking Turkey's Current Role and Engagement in the Balkans”.

Dr. Ralchev delivered a presentation in which he discussed the essence, nuances and ramifications of Turkey's soft power in the Balkans. His presentation received great attention from workshop participants. Among these were former Turkish ambassadors, foreign-policy makers, experts and foreign diplomats.

Dr. Ralchev argued that Turkey needs a nuanced, customized and tailor-made public diplomacy and foreign communication policy that has to handle with the stereotypes and perceptions in the Balkans. An interview with Dr. Ralchev will appear soon in the English-language Journal of Turkish Weekly.
