Spring Students Scientific Session of UNWE

I am proud to see my younger colleagues – thinking creative persons – at this hall. Today`s event is a good confirmation of the widely commented relations between the education and the business, outlined at the opening of the Spring Students Scientific Session the Rector of the university Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev. He pointed out that lecturers in the Forum were a personification of the real business – Petya Dimitrova, Chief Executive Director and Chairman of the Management Board of Postbank, alumnus of UNWE and Nikolai Valkanov, Chairman of the Management Board of Minstroy Holding, D.Sc. in Technical Sciences.

Prof. Stattev reminded that recently for the second time our university had obtained the highest accredited assessment (9, 65) for the next six year period from the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation. The Rector expressed his confidence in the success of the Students Forum which could be watched on a video record and the reports from it would be published in a special collection.        

By today`s Session we express our desire to acquire knowledge and to implement a close relation between the university and the business, said at the opening of the session Antoan Shotarov, Chairman of the Students Council. “Our lecturers will present us how things happen, how the successful people manage and how to get into the real business.”

In her presentation to students Petya Dimitrova, distinguished by the special award Banker of the Year 2012 commented the challenges facing the bank sector in Bulgaria, spoke about the rules which had always helped her to manage the sixth by the assets amount banking institution in Bulgaria. “For me the education is №1 and I assert it from my personal experience. I am deeply convinced in the thought that the chance favours the prepared mind”, outlined Petya Dimitrova. She defined the most important condition for the bank system - stability which could not exist without the trust of people and determined the credit financial institutions from the banks, presented the bank system in our country (31 banks, 82 milliard BGN assets, 26% of them – possession of banks having Bulgarians owners), examined all that had happened in the bank sphere over the last decade. She also disproved three myths – about the credit interests, reflux from credits because of the high interest rates and lack of competitiveness between the banks in Bulgaria. “The banks are inseparable part of the business but the banks follow the economy and not vice versa”, outlined Petya Dimitrova.

“120 million are invested in the output, 800 workplaces are restored, other 100 workplaces are opened, output has increased by 30%-40% for one year, salaries are raised by 30%-40%, listed the reasons for the award Mr. Economy 2012 its holder Nikolai Valkanov. He presented to students his business as an owner of Minstroy Holding, spoke about the ore output enterprise Gorubso-Madan, the large companies and the small business in our country, the actual state of the national economy. “You are the most important unit from Bulgarian industry”, said the lecturer to young people and undertook to provide scholarships and internships at his company for students from the UNWE.

The Students Scientific Session continued working in four panels – Economy and Finance, Accountancy and Control/ Political Sciences/Public Communications and Information Sciences/ Law. Reports on the impact of economic crisis on real estate sales, electronic invoicing, incomes from property taxes, future of the European Union, media and freedom of the speech in Bulgaria, the interim government, etc. were presented by students from different specialities at the university.
