New Professor of UNWE

On October, 23rd a diploma of Professor of UNWE has obtained one more respected member of our large academic family – Dr. Dimitar Panayotov Dimitrov, Head of the National and Regional Security Department. It was bestowed to him in a solemn ambience by Prof. D. Sc. (Econ.) Hristo Parvanov, Dean of the Economics of Infrastructure Faculty. 

Prof.Parvanov is bestowing the diploma to Prof. Dimitrov.

In accordance with the established tradition the newly elected Professor exposed an academic speech on the Scenario Planning and Broken Windows to the members of the Faculty Council. The team of the National and Regional Security Department also attended at the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov expressed his thankfulness to all the people he had worked with over the years and to all those who had contributed to his career as a scientist. Personal thankfulness was addressed to the Rector of our university Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev, Prof. Dr. Borislav Borisov, Prof. D. Sc. (Econ.) Dimitar Yordanov Dimitrov, Prof. Dr. Tilcho Ivanov, Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Ivan Georgiev, Prof. D. Sc. (Econ.) Yosif Iliev, Leutenant-General Stoyan Andreev as well as to Prof. Dr. David Greenwood and Major-General Dr. Johanes Gerber - people whom the new Professor had learnt from in his professional career. 

Prof. Dimitrov is exposing his academic speech.

In his academic speech Prof. Dimitrov presented the application of the method for scenario planning in the security and business. The economy and security are inseparable, outlined he. “The scenario planning is as a large and beautiful fairy-tail and in it there is a science, relation of the science with business, business application with great effect and of course, military men who are the foundation for elaboration of these instruments.”

Prof. Dimitrov stated his research interest to the theory of broken windows combined with the scenario planning. “Let`s all together try to find the broken windows which will help us see the future”, appealed the Professor.

Prof. Dimitrov was born in 1963 in Yambol, Bulgaria. He has graduated from Karl Marx Higher Institute of Economics in 1988. He is a lecturer at the National and Regional Security Department from 1994. He has been a Scientific Secretary of the Department since 1996 to 2007. He is a Head of the National and Regional Department from 2007, member of the Academic Council and the Commission on the Ethics of UNWE. He has been a scholarship student of the Volkswagen Foundation and Ford Foundation. In 1997 he specialized at the University of Groningen, Holland on the issues of civil-military relations and in 2000 – at the Bonn International Center for Conversion in Germany on the issues of conversion. Since 1999 he has participated in the project of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and in the European Science Foundation programme COST A25 on the issues of illegal small weapons traffic. He is an author of more than 80 scientific publications and has participated in a number of national and international research projects on the issues of the defence budgeting, transparency and accountancy of the defence expenditures, defence industry, modernization of the armed forces, economic aspects of terrorism, scenario planning in the defence, etc.
