Two Days Seminar on The Intellectual Property Management in The Advertising Industry

Two days National Seminar by an international participation on the Intellectual Property Management in the Advertising Industry gathered together at the Large Conference Hall eminent scientists and professionals. The Forum is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Center for Intellectual Property of UNWE. Co-organizers of the event are the Bulgarian Association of Communication Agencies and the Bulgarian Association of PR Agencies.

The session was opened by Prof. Dr. Borislav Borisov, Honorary Rector of UNWE, Head of the Intellectual Property Department and Director of the Center for Intellectual Property of UNWE who presented the guests and participants in the seminar.

“I am sure that today`s event will impact seriously the solvation of some actual and important issues which will undoubtedly contribute to rise the authority of our Center for Intellectual Property as well as of the entire university”, outlined in his welcoming speech the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev. He pointed out that the importance of intellectual property increased not only in the field of advertising, but also in the world economy, in the social and cultural development in all spheres. “I am proud to notify that the Center for Intellectual Property has approved as a leading scientific center in this field not only in Bulgaria. The evidence about that is the participation of a large number of foreign experts and scientists in the seminar”, outlined Prof. Stattev. The Rector reminded two eloquent facts: by the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” of UNWE were awarded both Directors General of the World Intellectual Property Organization – Dr. Kamil Idris (in 2000) and Prof. Dr. Fransis Gurry (in 2009) and last year at the 20th Anniversary of the Intellectual Property Department was reported the wonderful news that the Center for Intellectual Property would administer the web portal of the World Intellectual Property “Education on Intellectual Property”. It was only one of the high recognitions for the large research possibilities and authority of the Center for Intellectual Property, outlined Prof. Statty Stattev. “I would like to note especially the professionalism of the Center team and personally of its founder and Head, the Honorary Rector of the university and Rector of UNWE since 2003 to 20011 Prof. Dr. Borislav Borisov”, said Prof. Stattev and pointed out that this inseparable part of the academic family had approved traditions and authority of UNWE.

Prof. Statty Stattev shared the following news: a few days ago when Prof. Stattev and Prof. Borisov were on a visit in the Ukraine capital it was awarded to Prof. Borislav Borisov the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” of the Kyev University of Law to the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. “It is the consecutive personal and institutional recognition for the high importance of our success in the field of intellectual property”, said Prof. Statev.

We expected interactive discussions and realization of useful partnerships, appreciated the importance of the seminar Dr. Dimitar Ganchev, Executive Director of the Creative Industries Directorate to the World Intellectual Property Organization. He explained that the Forum was part of the consecution which the World Organization initiated in various creative industries. Discussions are not easy, the virtual world makes so that the infringements are not seen as crimes, noted Ganchev and paid attention to the identification and examination of the separate intellectual property rights. 

In the field of the copyright issues are quite turbulent and contradictory, noted in his statement Prof. Dr. Kamen Veselinov, Chairman of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria. He expressed his point of view that today all the students should acquire knowledge in the field of intellectual property although the specialty was studied only at the UNWE. You, the students at this university, have a good basis for development, prognosticated the professional chance of the future specialists Prof. Veselinov.

Valey Yotov, Director of the UN and Cooperation for Development Directorate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alumnus of UNWE noted that the advertising industries were related to all economic sectors and the seminar was an excellent opportunity to cope with the challenges in that field. Dr. Georgy Damyanov, Director of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Directorate to the Ministry of Culture emphasized on the benefit from such forums for all the people dealing with the intellectual law. I count the seminar to contribute to the greater respect and consideration to the rights of people creating an intellectual property, in particular, in the advertising industry.

What did the advertising agencies expect from the seminar, the opportunity to learn what was the practice in the intellectual property, which were the most important issues and the opportunities for joint activity commented Mariana Brashnarova, Director of the Bulgarian Association of Communication Agencies. The attendance at the Forum is inspiring and we hope to find answers of lots of the issues and to see their practical solvation, added Alexander Durchev, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of PR Agencies.

At the opening of the seminar attended also Prof. Dr.Valentin Goev, Vice-Rector on Scientific Research Activity of UNWE, Prof. D.Sc.(Econ) Stoyan Denchev, Rector of the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies, Prof. Dr. Petko Todorov, Head of the Media and Public Communications Department at the UNWE and many others.

The Forum is structured on discussing of eight basic topics: Creative Economics and Advertising Industry; State of the Advertising Industry in Bulgaria; Intellectual Property Identification in the Adverting Industry; Intellectual Property Practices for Use in the Advertising Industry; Intellectual Property Assessment in the Advertising; Intellectual Property, Advertising and Internet; Good Practices in the Management of Copyright and Other Intellectual Property Rights in the Advertising Industry; Basic Conclusions and Future Directions for the Intellectual Property Management in the Advertising Industry; Intellectual property and PR.
