The Expert Rodolfo Peykov Presented to Students The World Treat from Drugs and Terrorism

Rodolfo Peykov read a public lecture on the Production and Trade of Drugs in Afganistan to students from the speciality Economics of Security and Defence. It is the fourth lecture at the UNWE of the former long-standing officer of the American Drug Enforcement Administration. The event was organized from the Department of National and Regional Security of UNWE jointly by the International Institute of Security and Cooperation and the Center for Strategic Research of Security and Defence at UNWE.

Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of Department of National and Regional Security presented to attendants the lecturer who is a son of our famous artist Asen Peykov - he has lived and created in Italy. In the rich biography of the guest Assoc. Prof. Dimitrov outlined his more than 30 year work to the Drug Enforcement Agencies in USA. Rodolfo Peykov is a member of the Association of Former Federal Narcotics Agents and a member of the International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association.

In his presentation the lecturer exposed some comparative and new facts related to the international drugs traffic. As a starting point of the drugs traffic the specialist examined the world leader in the drugs production Afganistan which delivers to the illegal international market more than 80% of the opiates. By vast information of facts and illustrative material Rodolfo Peykov pointed the road of the drugs traffic, made a comparative analysis of the drugs production and market during the period 1996 – 2011. The guest adduced specific data about the situation in 2012 and spoke about the kinds of heroin and pointed out some of the “players” in that criminal business. The key in the drug enforcement is the global cooperation, outlined the lecturer in conclusion.

In his second presentation Rodolfo Peykov spoke about the world terrorism. He made a review of the global treat since 2001 till now as he examined in details “the Bulgarian case” – the attack at the airport of Bourgas in July, 2012.
