Contract with A1 Bulgaria under the project "Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030"

The Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and Ivan Ivanov, Senior Director of Corporate Sales of A1 Bulgaria signed a contract for the supply, installation and configuration of equipment, furniture and software for digital classrooms and digital laboratories.

The contract is concluded following an open procedure under the Public Procurement Act (PPA) for the award of a public contract under project BG05M2OP001-2.016-0004 "Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030".

In accordance with the project, the UNWE should modify its training, respectively the curricula in Economics and Management, in a way that allows them to be similar to programs in European universities and applicable in modern business conditions. Digital classrooms and digital laboratories, which are an indispensable complement to the modern learning process, are to be put into operation.

"The main priorities for the implementation of the project "Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030" are: digitalization of the learning process, digitalization of the way of teaching and digitalization of the tools and instruments used for teaching, said Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, Ph.D. and noted, "There are several major activities to be carried out at the university, including infrastructural support for this digitalization. Today, we are giving a good start to all the endeavours of the project."

"At A1 Bulgaria we have experience in implementing this type of projects. We are the main contractor of the Ministry of Education and Science's programs for digitalization of schools, which have been upgraded in stages over the past three or four years, in 2018 we started with 17 schools, currently we have covered about more than 1100, our client is also Sofia University," said Ivan Ivanov and stressed "our cooperation with the UNWE is not only related to the implementation of this project, we also have an interest in the employees that come out of your university. As an employer, we are very interested, because personally in sales and in the technological part, our practice is to take people from the bench, train them, develop them and from there on they stay to work in the company".

The term of the contract is up to 30 days and a license for 3 years, for the operation of digital classrooms and digital labs.

The signing of the contract was attended by Vesselina Lilova, Director of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Directorate, on behalf of A1 Bulgaria, and Prof. Dr. Rosen Kirilov, Deputy Director of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Department, on behalf of the UNWE. The project BGO5M2OP001-2.016-004 "Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030" is funded under the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014-2020", under the procedure "Modernization of Higher Education Institutions".  The project is worth BGN 5 million. UNWE should modify its training, respectively the curricula in Economics and Management, in a way that allows them to be similar to programs in European universities and applicable in modern business conditions. The updating and modernisation will be done in partnership with other leading regional universities such as the D. А. Cenoff" - Svishtov, Burgas Free University, National Sports Academy and KRIB. Through this cooperation, up-to-date curricula based on digitalization will be created and put into practice. 9 digital classrooms and 3 digital laboratories, which are an indispensable addition to the modern learning process, will be put into operation. This will enable the sharing of resources, including know-how, between partner universities and/or between students and their university lecturers and mentors to be maximised.

The project relies on the inclusion of a large part of the teachers involved in its implementation in the programs for further training and/or short-term specialization in the foreign partners, with the share of young scientists to be at least 15 percent. It is planned to implement 15 joint  programs with partner Bulgarian higher education institutions and to introduce 7 new programmes programs with digital educational content, including distance learning. 2 training programmes programs in a foreign language will be introduced in cooperation with foreign universities and scientific organisations.

The project will provide support for students to develop entrepreneurial skills and digital creativity. The project will be implemented for 30 months, and all of the above will contribute to improving the quality of economics education at the UNWE and in Bulgaria, as well as to improving the quality of research at the UNWE and other partner universities.
