Project on the Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030

The first official event held in the UNWE newest academic corpus "K" was a Conference for presenting the strategic project for digitalization of economic education - Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030.

The project is worth BGN 5 million. As a leading university in Bulgaria the UNWE should modify its training, respectively the curricula in Economics and Management, in a way that allows them to be similar to programmes in European universities and applicable in modern business conditions. The updating and modernization will be done in partnership with other leading universities at regional level such as the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov, the Free University of Burgas, the National Sports Academy and the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria /KRIB/.

"We have a lot of work and future development ahead of us, both with the other universities and with business partners. We want to create a network for which digitalization is necessary and thanks to it many joint initiatives will be implemented", commented the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov as Project Head.

"This project is of vital importance because it will help our university to realize itself as a better research institution after the pandemic. The objectives of the project are set to work for its implementation and to raise the educational standards", noted Prof. Dr. Nikolay Shterev, Director of the Center for Research and Educational Projects, Head of the Department of Industrial Business and Project Coordinator.

The official opening of the project was attended by Prof. Dr. Miroslava Rakovska, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mihail Musov, Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies, and representatives of the partner universities /in the picture below/.

Through this cooperation the current curricula based on digitalization will be created and put into practice. There will work 9 digital classrooms and 3 digital laboratories which are an integral part of the modern learning process. It will provide the opportunity to make the most of the sharing of resources, including also know-how between partner universities an /or between students and their university professors and mentors.

The project relies on the inclusion of a large part of the lecturers involved in its implementation in the programmes for professional development and/or short-term specialization at foreign partners as the share of young scientists should be not less than 15%. It is planned to implement 15 joint programmes with partner Bulgarian universities as well as to introduce 7 new programmes with digital educational content including distance learning. Two curricula for foreign language teaching will be introduced jointly with foreign universities and research organizations.

The project will provide support to students for the development of entrepreneurial skills and digital creativity. It is expected to increase the share of students enrolled in courses taught through digital educational content. With regard to the professional fields included in the operation, the rating of the respective higher education institutions is expected to be increased by 10% and for UNWE the change is from 1.51 to 1.66. The project envisages 30-months of implementation and all of the above will contribute to improve the quality of education in Economics at the UNWE and in Bulgari as well as to improve the quality of scientific research at theUNWE and other partner universities.
