New Benefit for Students with Disabilities

Students of UNWE with disabilities now have another opportunity for accessible and safety trouble-free movement at the University. It is a mobile device with a platform (the so-called "chain elevator") for moving up and down the stairs and uneven surfaces.

The wheelchair ladder device is operated by an attendant and it is designed to move up and down the stairs while the student with disability is sitting on a wheelchair attached to the device. As these stair climbing platforms are mobile without the need to be attached to a specific staircase they can be transported and used in different places in the University complex.

There are also appointed two staff members who are trained to work with the mobile device for helping students with disabilities in getting around the Unversity.

Providing the mobile device is part of the UNWE policy as a University maintaining the best conditions for students with disabilities to continue improving the opportunities for accessible environment for education and successful social integration.
