Students Financiers from the UNWE Won the First Place in the CFA Institute Research Challenge Competition 2019-2020

The UNWE team with its academic mentor Prof. Dr. Dimitar Nenkov won the first place in the Inter-University Student Competition CFA Institute Research Challenge 2019-2020 for Bulgaria. The participants in the winning team of UNWE are Master students of specialities Financial Management and Finance.

The global competition organized by the international professional organization of certified financial analysts - CFA Institute is in the field of so-called equity analysis and it is held between university teams at three levels: local (for Bulgaria), regional and global. For the puspose the world is divided into three regions: 1. Europe, Middle East and Africa /EMEA/, 2. Asia and the Pacific, and 3. America /North and South/. The Bulgarian universities are included in the first region - EMEA.

The competition aims to develop students' knowledge and especially the skills in the field of analysis and valuation of shares, preparation of investment report as well as the presentation skills.

Five teams from four universities in Bulgaria reached the finals of the competition: two teams from the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG), a team from the University of Economics - Varna, a team from the University of Finance, Insurance, Business and Entrepreneurship /VUZF/ and a team from the UNWE.

 - Kristiyan Georgiev, specialty Financial Management.

As a winner in the Competition the UNWE team will represent Bulgaria in the regional competition for Europe, Middle East and Africa which will be held in Jordan on April 1^st and 2^nd, 2020.

The Competition included the analysis and evaluation of the shares of a public joint stock company traded on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange - Sofia. The work of the team lasted about three months - from the end of November 2019 to the end of February 2020. The evaluated company was Gradus AD.

Each of the teams had to prepare and submit a report consisting analysis and evaluation of the company which was assessed by a panel of Graders, certified financial analysts. After that each team had to make a presentation and defend its assessment to another panel of Judges, also professional financial analysts.
