Public Lecture on the EU Private International Law

In the Small Conference Hall was held a public lecture by Prof. Josep Marcer on the EU Private International Law organized by the Law Faculty.

Assoc. Prof. D.Sc.(Law) Jivko Draganov, Dean of the Law Faculty and Head of the International Law and EU Law Department presented the guest-lecturer who is the President of the European Law Faculties Association, Director of the Institute of European Studies at Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and Dean of the Law Faculty at the same university since 2008 to 2013.

Prof. Marcer explained in details the importance of private international law, gave practical examples about its application in life and emphasized on the increasing necessity of such kind of law in the conditions of globalizing world and intensive internet communications.

The guest-lecturer determined the private international law in the EU as a guarantee for the proper functioning of the European Single Market, free movements of goods, people and services as well as the respect for human rights at international level. He also examined the differences between the private international law and international commercial law.

The lecture continued with discussion with students about the major legal instruments and the application of private international law in the EU frameworks.
