Public Lecture on The Japanese Foreign Policy and Relations with Bulgaria

Takeshi Ogino, First Secretary on Political Issues at the Japanese Embassy in Bulgaria visited the UNWE and delivered a lecture on the Japanese Foreign Policy and Relations with Bulgaria. At the meeting organized by the National and Regional Security Department attended lecturers and students.

At the opening of the public lecture Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Dean of the Economic of Infrastructure Faculty and Head of the National and Regional Security Department emphasized on the traditionally good contacts between the UNWE and representatives of the Japanese educational and diplomatic institutions. He outlined the opportunities for further successful bilateral cooperation and expressed his hope that the event had been the consecutive step to it.

Takeshi Ogino outlined the three pillars of Japanese foreign policy as he examined the strengthening of the union between Japan and the USA, relations with the neighbour countries and the encouragement of economic diplomacy in support of Japanese economy. The diplomat analyzed the high level summits with the new USA administration, commented the worsen situation in the South China Sea and the territorial dispute about Senkaku Islands, relations with the Republic of Korea, North Korea, Russia, etc.

During the public lecture

Japan and its contribution to the global issues solvation as well as the efforts of the country in the field of disarmament and nuclear weapons nonproliferation was the second topic in the lecture of Takeshi Ogino.

The lecturer

The lecturer emphasized on the bilateral relations between Japan and Bulgaria and he pointed out some facts as the technical support, education of Bulgarian specialists in the Land of the Rising Sun and bilateral goods exchange. He gave some examples of successful investment in our country – in the automobile industry through the project for expanding the port of Bourgas, the extension of subway and the construction of water treatment plant in Sofia, the Museum Center for Thracian Art in East Rodopi, etc.

The lecturer paid special attention to the exchange in the field of culture and education as he outlined that more than 500 Bulgarians had been educated in Japan through the state scholarships.
