Lecturers from The UNWE in The President`s Legal Council

Two Lecturers from the Law Faculty of UNWE – Prof. Dr. Emilia Drumeva (Criminal Legal Studies Department) and Prof. D.Sc.(Law) Tsvetana Kamenova (Private Legal Studies) are appointed in the Legal Council to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. By his Decree the President Rumen Radev determined Prof. Emilia Drumeva as a Chairwoman of the Legal Council and Prof. Tsvetana Kamenova - as a member. It`s a tradition for the Legal Council to attract eminent jurists from various fields of legal science and practice in order to help the President for solving legal cases of public importance.

Prof. Dr. Emilia Drumeva has a huge legal and expert-administrative experience as a longstanding Head of the National Assembly Legal Directorate (1990 – 2003). He has participated in the creation of the Constitution and a dozen of legislative documents synchronizing the Bulgarian legislation with the modern European standards. He has also been a member of the Constitutional Court (2003 – 2012), Central Election Commission (1990 – 1991), Chairwoman of public and expert councils related to the adoption of constitutional alterations and civil control of fair elections, member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to the Council of Europe, etc.

Prof. D.Sc.(Law) Tsvetana Kamenova is a leading researcher in the field of international law having a huge scientific and practical activity. She has been a longstanding Director of the Institute of Legal Studies of BAS (1995 – 2006). She has also been a lecturer at the Columbia University in the City of New York, University of Oregon, in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan.

Prof. Tsvetana Kamenova

Prof. Kamenova is the Bulgarian jurist elected at the highest international legal position – in 2005 she has been elected by the UN General Assembly as one of the 27 judges-members of the Hague Tribunal. She has occupied a number of positions in international legal organizations. She is a member of the American Society in International Law (ASIL). In 2016 she has been awarded the Honorary sign for merits to the BAS and she has also been a member of expert councils at higher state institutions. She is an arbitrator at the Arbitration Court of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 1991.
