Third One Week Tuition for Students from The Florida International University at the UNWE

For a third consecutive year the UNWE is the host of one week tuition for students from the Florida International University (FIU), Miami, USA. The event is implemented on the grounds of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the UNWE and FIU signed by the Rectors of both universities in May 2012. It is a partnership for encouraging the international academic and scientific exchange between the UNWE and FIU including also the exchange of lecturers and students. The project is administrated by the Public Administration Department and Coordinator of Tuition Programme is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Polya Katsamunska.

At the official opening of the one week tuition attended Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev, Rector of the university, Prof. Allan Rosenbaum, Director of the Institute for Public Management at Florida International University, Head of the American students, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Polya Katsamunska, Vice Dean for International Cooperation to the Management and Administration Department, Coordinator of Tuition Programme for the UNWE, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Valkov, Head of the Public Administration Department and lecturers.

It is a privilege to me to start for the third time the opening of the one week tuition for American students at the UNWE, pointed out Assoc. Prof. Katsamunska. I believe it will be successful as well as an exciting experience. She emphasized that due to the assistance and strong support by the Rector Prof. Stattev it had been signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Bulgarian and American university and the tuition for students from the USA at the UNWE had become a good tradition.

I am really glad to open for a third consecutive year the tuition for American students at our university, pointed out Prof. Stattev. He outlined that the Memorandum between the UNWE and the Florida International University had worked successfully as he expressed his thankfulness for that to Prof. Rosenbaum. I hope you will study the essence of the tuition as well as the beauty of our capital Sofia, said the Rector and wished the students to have fruitful and exciting time in Bulgaria.

There`s no doubt that our stay in Bulgarian will be an exciting experience, outlined Prof. Rosenbaum. All the students who have participated in the tuition in Bulgaria return to the USA filled with wonderful impressions and share them with their friends. They learn lots of things about a different culture and bring with them the beauty of the country and the hospitability of Bulgarian people so we are very thankful to you for that. There`s no doubt that this time it will also be the same, explicitly said Prof. Rosenbaum.

After the lecturers and students participating in the one week tuition introduced themselves to each other Assoc. Prof. Dr. Denitsa Gorchilova, Scientific Secretary of the Public Administration Department presented through a “virtual tour” the most interesting things about Sofia. Beside the lectures the Tuition Programme for American students includes also visits to the most important institutions and sightseeing of Sofia as well as a trip to Veliko Tarnovo.

The Bulgarian lecturers

The first event related to the Memorandum of cooperation between both universities was the Tuition Programme for American students and lecturers at the UNWE on the issues of democratic transition and administrative reform in Bulgaria which was implemented in November 2013. The second event was held in October 2015 and it was devoted to the Multilevel Governance Issues and the European Union: The Case of Bulgaria. During the current academic year the Tuition Programme is prepared in compliance with the preliminary determined topic: Contemporary Issues in Public Administration: Bulgaria in the European Union.
